Trusting services and the companies behind them is not easy and I’d argue should not be required.
Let us take [e]mail as an example because it’s easy to explain.
If you want to have mail secured then don’t use proton and trust them, however few issues there may have been. If you instead just use any mail provider and encrypt your message before it reaches the hosts server, you won’t have to trust them at all. Thus being able to feel safe.
You can be happy when on top the provider is a trustworthy one, but why would you lay your fate in their hands?
Avoid to have to trust them, that way you’ll have less sleepless nights.
